Michoacan Ocampo is one the 31 constituent states of Mexico. It borders the states of Colima and Jalisco to the west, Guanajuato and Queretaro to the north, Mexico to the east, Guerrero to the south-east, and the Pacific Ocean to the South.
Michoacan has an area of 59,864 km (23,113.6 sq mi) It is one of the 16 largest states of Mexico, taking up 3% of the national territory. In 2005 census population was at 3,966,073 people. Its state of capital is the city of Morelia (previously known as Valladolid), located between 2 main cities in Mexico, Mexico city and Guadalajara.
Michoacan has 113 Municipalities. Temperature is between 14 and 18 c with maximum of 38c in the early summer.
Another major attracion is the volcano Paricutin 1 of the newest volcanoes in the world. Born in February 20th in 1943.
Yearly between about October and April,tourism as more than 100 millions monarch butterflies, migrate from Canada and North of the United States to the mountains in Michoacan.
EDUCATION:
During the Colonial period the city had 4 major educational institutions.
Michoacan is knownforits rich varied culture, most notably for its unique pre-Columbian architecture as well as its art and cuisine.
NOTABLE SITES:
Almost all of Morelia's notable sites lie in its historic center, due to its history.
This historic center is roughly equivalent to the original layout of the city when it was founded in 1541.
Michoacan also has many unique species including the Jaguar, Jaguarundi, Cougar,Onza, Ocelot, Margay, Coyote, and Boa.
Also we have reptiles include spiny lizard, bunchgrass lizards, rattlesneakes, coral sneaks, the ornate box turtle, the Mexican burrowing sneak, lyre sneaks and many others.
We also have armadillo,white-nosed coati,the raccon, squirrels, skuns.
The Michoacan Dwarf Spiny-tailes Iguana or Nopiche. Some of the birds of the state are chachalacas, roadrunners, doves, the Northern Caracara, the golden eagle, vultures, quail, the Groove-billed.
The capital city is Morelia, often cited as "the most beautiful city in Mexico".
There are also several archeology temples and sites where tourist get to see ancient petroglyphs of many different indigenous cultures, some of them still present in many towns in Michoacan.
